Permanent Collection Off-Site

A selection of works from the Butler Gallery Permanent Collection is currently on display off-site in publically accessible spaces throughout Kilkenny. St. Canice's Credit Union, High Street, Kilkenny, are currently exhibiting 10 contemporary artworks on loan from the Butler Collection including paintings, prints and wall mounted sculptures by Martin Folan, Andrew Folan, Camille Souter, Graham Gingles, John Gerrard, Alistair Wilson, Tim Goulding, John Piper and Jill Dennis. The staff at the Credit Union chose the pieces from a shortlist of 50, with their only guideline being the word impact. The exhibition continues for the year after which another staff selection will be mounted.

For Heritage Week at the beginning of September we showed works by artists with European connections in Loreto Secondary School and Heywood Community School in Laois are hosting a Contemporary Print Show taken from our Collection as part of Laois Arts Week at the end of October. We also lend individual works to other galleries and museums to form part of bigger shows, for example our 'Gold Painting' by Patrick Scott went to the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in Dublin and to the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery in Cork as part of a major retrospective of his work earlier this year. Our 'James Joyce Study 54' by Louis le Brocquy is going to the Model Art and Niland Gallery in Sligo as part of a portrait exhibition in November.
