Art-i-Fact

‘Art-i-Fact’ is a new concept to develop a set of trading and gaming cards for primary school students that will foster and develop their interest in the contemporary visual arts.

Students aged 7 - 11 years have been working with the Butler Gallery Collection, artist Andrew Snyder and teachers over the past 4 months to create images and develop a strategy for Art Cards. The collection of 100 art cards will be launched in The Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle, on May 16th from 1.30pm - 3.30pm when participating students receive their cards and get to test out their strategy!

Garden Development at St. Lukes Hospital

St. Lukes Hospital have in recent months initiated a fundraising drive to develop a natural garden space for all hospital users, located in the Department of Psychiarty.  Thanks to the support of the HSE, Butler Gallery, the Ireland Funds and local businesses in Carlow and Kilkenny the garden is well underway.

The  development of a user friendly garden space is vital to the continuing care and rehabilitation of  hospital users.  Prior to this initiative the Psychiatric Unit had a large outdoor space that could not be  used due to lack of privacy, shelter and seating. The first phase of this development is nearing completion with the laying of pathways, garden seating and features, the centre of these being a commissioned scultpure by artist Saturio Alonso.

It is hoped that with the continued generosity of local businesses and individuals , the second phase can continue over the coming months. This will include seasonal planting of trees, shrubs and flowers and the setting up of sheltered areas and screening to provide privacy.

The nursing and medical staff at St. Lukes are very much in support of this development. The working group established to raise funds hope that local businesses from Kilkenny and Carlow will continue to contribute funding to ensure the gardens completion.

If you are in a position to make a donation to this worthy cause contact:
Ger Delaney, Mental Health Association, Department of Psychiatry, St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny for a sponsorship form or call 056 7785000 and ask for Ger in the Department of Psychiatry. .
Alternatively please forward your donation by cheque made payable to Kilkenny Mental Health Association to the above mentioned. Kilkenny Mental Health Association is a registered Charity and all donationas are eligible for tax relief.
