Gems from the Butler Gallery Collection The Butler Gallery was delighted to share Gems from the Butler Gallery Collection with a new audience. This was the first time a selection from the Collection, which has flourished since the 1940’s, was shown outside of Kilkenny and it was received with great interest. The exhibition included a suite of eight aquatints by the American artist James Turrell, works by Mainie Jellet (1897-1944), Patrick Collins’ (1912-1994), Jack B. Yeats (1871-1957) and Louis le Brocquy. This selection also embraced figuration in many guises: portraits, nudes in social and domestic narratives, as well as satires, allegories, whimsies and fantasies. A recent addition to the Collection included Victoria, a tiny rubber figurative sculpture by New York based artist Jeanne Silverthorne that addresses the literal and metaphorical implications of DNA. |
