A ‘one work’ event with artist Deirdre O’Mahony, allowing an in-depth discussion of Daphne Wright’s film I Know What It’s Like, exhibited as part of A Most Favourable Soil, Butler Gallery’s last exhibition at Kilkenny Castle. This discussion workshop is an opportunity to reflect deeply on questions and ideas raised by this artwork including communication between generations, ageing, and the isolation experienced through physical and social barriers to communication.
This workshop will draw on ideas put forward by participants at our Bealtaine Festival event in May last year following a screening of O’Mahonys film First Citizen’s Speak, on the role of the Butler Gallery and its potential to provide space for intergenerational exchange. I Know What It’s Like offers an opportunity to publicly reflect on uncomfortable and difficult subjects and the role of the gallery in opening avenues of communication between generations today.
