• Art-i-Fact

A board game for primary schools fusing Art, Maths and Science

Art-i-FactLaunched in May 2008 in Kilkenny Castle’s Parade Tower, Art-i-fact is a new initiative for primary schools developed over the past two years by the Butler Gallery, artist Andrew Snyder, and students and teachers at Scoil Naomh Fiachra and Lisnafunchin National School. Art-i-fact is a board game that integrates subjects in the primary school curriculum – maths, science and art, and aims to introduce school children to aspects of these subjects in the curriculum in a fun and interactive way.

Art-i-fact is based on the concept of gaming or trading cards such as ‘Yugio’ or premiership soccer cards, however art cards use images from the Butler Gallery collection and a strategy designed by students aged 7 – 11 and teachers of Scoil Naomh Fiachra and Lisnafunchin National School. Students worked with the artist and their class teacher over a 14 week period to design a set of art cards and to develop a gaming strategy which can now be used in the classroom.

Art-i-fact art cards are now ready to be used by primary schools. For more information and to receive a set of cards, please contact Jean Tormey, Education Curator, Butler Gallery on 056 7761106.

‘Art-i-Fact’ was funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, Empowering Minds, the Kilkenny Education Centre and supported by the Office of Public Works.
